Theft Tracking Guide: Hunt Without Ride Pro (What's Available for Free)

⚠️ Important notice for riders with older bikes (S3 series and older)

If you own an S3, X3, or any older VanMoof model and did not activate Ride Pro before 31 March 2026, tracking is unfortunately no longer available on your bike. This is due to the global 2G network shutdown. VanMoof's older bike models relied on the 2G network to transmit location data. Now that the network is gradually being discontinued, the SIM card in these bikes has been permanently disabled and tracking cannot be reactivated. For full details on what happened and what your options are, see:

Free tracking

If you have a VanMoof and haven't subscribed to Ride Pro, you still have access to a limited set of tracking features when your bike is reported stolen.

Location updates

When your VanMoof is in theft-tracking mode, it transmits its location over the internet. Riders without Ride Pro only see the known location where the phone was last connected to the bike. In stolen mode, your bike without Ride Pro is not sending any location updates.

We advise you to use the 14-day free trial to activate Ride Pro even if your bike has already been stolen. If you have a connected bike (not applicable for SX3 and older), the bike will start sending location updates once transmitted.

Getting close: the Bluetooth scanner

Once you're within roughly 15 meters of your S6, the app detects its Bluetooth signal and automatically switches to a faster tracking mode. This is available to all VanMoof riders, with or without Ride Pro.

The scanner turns blue when a connection is detected. Signal strength is shown in real time:

  • Poor signal: ~20 meter range
  • Very strong signal: less than 1 meter — you're right next to it

Once connected via Bluetooth, you can:

  • Flash the lights
  • Trigger a ping sound

These Bluetooth-based actions respond faster than remote commands, making them ideal for the final stage of locating your bike.

💡 Hunting Tip

If your phone picks up the bike's BLE signal, we will send a push notification to alert you, even if you are not actively hunting the bike. Make sure to enable app notifications in your phone settings.

Invite a guest Rider to increase your chances. For S6 bikes, however, go on a hunt with a maximum of 2 devices, no more, or it can impact the stability of your Bluetooth connection.

💡 Ride Pro Tip

Use the 14-day free trial to activate Ride Pro even if your bike has already been stolen. Buy it online, enter the activation code in the app, and start tracking immediately - no bike present required.
