If your S6 is acting unexpectedly — such as triggering functions on its own or behaving inconsistently — this is often caused by an issue with the handlebar buttons. These buttons control several core features, and when they malfunction, they can cause unusual or unpredictable behavior.
Your S6 may display one or more of the following behaviors:
Button-related functions activate on their own
- The bell rings by itself
- Touch Unlock activates without interaction
- Boost triggers unexpectedly
- Power levels change without input
- Lights flashing or switching on/off irregularly
- Secondary functions are activating unexpectedly
- The Backup Code prompt appears spontaneously
Power and locking issues
- The bike turns on randomly
- The Kicklock opens back up shortly after locking
To ensure your bike is safe and fully functional, we recommend visiting a VanMoof Partner for a professional diagnosis. A technician can quickly determine whether the buttons are the cause and replace them if needed.
VanMoof S6 is completely unresponsive
- Your battery might be fully drained and therefore the bike went into 'Sleep Mode/Shipping Mode'. The bike's brain therefore isn't able to start.
- Get your bike out of shipping mode by inserting the charger or pressing the Power button located under the toptube. This will take a few seconds, don't press the button again.
- Charge the bike to at least 25% before you unplug. Read more about charging here.
- Not close to a charger? Find the Main ECU USB-C port and remove the cap covering the port. (Below the horizontal top tube, remove the cap with a torx 6 screwdriver)
- Connect a USB-C cable to a power source (5w) and connect it to the bike's brain.
- Charge the Main ECU for around 1 hour.
- Power your bike back on and make sure you are on the latest firmware.
