Battery & Charging

Your bike's battery is brand new, so there might be some unexpected behaviour. In this article, we will go over the most common things and explain how to troubleshoot them.

VanMoof S6 is completely unresponsive

  1. Your battery might be fully drained. The bike's brain therefore isn't able to start.
    • Find the Main ECU USB-C port and remove the cap covering the port. (Below the horizontal top tube, remove the cap with a torx 6 screwdriver)
  2. Connect a USB-C cable to a power source (5w) and connect it to the bike's brain.
    • Charge the Main ECU for around 1 hour.
  3. Power your bike back on and make sure you are on the latest firmware.

VanMoof S6 battery is discharging fast

If your battery is brand new, the charge estimation algorithm running on the battery needs to learn and adjust its internal parameters. This is especially important if your battery is new or has been unused for some weeks (i.e. during transportation). Doing a few (i.e. 3 or more) full charge/discharge cycles will let the battery algorithm adjust itself to the battery cells, and will report a precise state of charge, which will enable the use of the complete storage capacity of the battery.

  1. Make sure you are on the latest firmware.
  2. Please charge your battery up to 100% and completely discharge it for the first 3 goes. It will then calibrate and work at its full capacity.

VanMoof S6 Charger LED Behaviour

Your charger has some advanced behaviour. We gave our chargers and update and therefore they behave slightly different from what is on the sticker on the bottom of the charger. Here's what it does:
