Important Note
Theft Tracking is only available for S3 & X3 models with a Ride Pro subscription active by March 31, 2026. Due to the 2G network shutdown, the GSM chip used for bike tracking without this subscription is no longer active. Read more here.
How Anti-Theft Tracking works on 3-series and earlier bikes, including the GSM chip and in-app Ride Pro tracking.
Built-in hardware
The S3 and X3 feature a GSM module and Bluetooth beacon integrated directly into the frame. The bike's front-hub motor battery powers the GSM chip, so it can keep broadcasting for a long time even when the bike is stationary. There are no external antennas or visible tracker units — everything is concealed within the downtube.
The Alarm System
Before tracking even comes into play, the VanMoof S3 and X3 deter theft. When the Kick Lock is engaged, and the bike detects unauthorized movement, it escalates through the following sequence:
- A warning growl with a skull animation on the Matrix Display
- A full alarm siren if interference continues
- An automatic push notification to the owner's phone (requires Ride Pro)
How to start tracking a stolen VanMoof S3 or X3
- Open the VanMoof app on your phone
- Tap Settings, then select your bike
- Scroll down and tap Theft Tracking
- Follow the in-app prompts: Track with Ride Pro or Disable bike remotely.
- View your bike's location in-app using Ride Pro.
Please note: It may take up to 24 hours for the first location data to appear after reporting. The bike needs to be within GSM network coverage for the coordinates to be sent.
Ride Pro: In-app live tracking
With a Ride Pro subscription, S3 and X3 owners get access to live location tracking directly inside the VanMoof app. Ride Pro also adds the Bluetooth proximity radar to guide you to the exact location, last-seen alerts, and push notifications when the bike's alarm triggers.
Apple Find My (S3 & X3 2021)
VanMoof S3 and X3 bikes manufactured from April 2021 onwards include support for Apple's Find My network. This lets you see your bike's location in the Find My app at any time — as long as it is not marked as stolen. This is useful for locating a forgotten parking spot.
