Quick answers to the most common questions about VanMoof tracking, accuracy, privacy and services.
Does VanMoof track my location during normal rides?
No. VanMoof's tracking system is entirely passive during normal use. The GSM/GPS chip and location reporting only activate after you explicitly report your bike stolen in the app or on My VanMoof. Ride Pro's Ride Tracking feature (route recording) is opt-in and entirely separate from theft tracking.
How accurate is VanMoof tracking?
Accuracy depends on your model and subscription. GSM triangulation alone is accurate to within a hundred metres in urban areas. Ride Pro's combination of GSM and smartphone GPS brings this down to street-level accuracy. The Bluetooth proximity radar then guides you to within a few metres. Accuracy may be lower in rural areas or underground.
How long does it take for tracking data to appear after I report my bike stolen?
For S3, X3, and older bikes, it can take up to 24 hours for the first coordinates to appear. For S5, A5, and S6-series bikes, tracking data typically appears faster via My VanMoof or in-app. The bike must be in mobile network coverage for data to transmit. Ride Pro provides significantly faster updates than free tracking.
Can I track my bike without Ride Pro?
This depends on your bike model. All S3 and X3 riders and older can't track without Ride Pro. These riders were informed in Q1 2026 about the 2G network shutting down, and need an active Ride Pro subscription, activated before 31 March 2026 to keep tracking their bike. Currently, S5 series riders can track their bike through their MyVanMoof account, without Ride Pro.
All S6 series riders have tracking of their last known and connected location in the VanMoof app, and currently need a Ride Pro subscription to have enhanced and live tracking.
Will I get a push notification if my bike's alarm goes off?
Only with Ride Pro. Push notifications for alarm triggers are a Ride Pro-exclusive feature and are not available on the free plan. On S3 & X3, Ride Pro push notifications are available now. On S5, A5, and S6-series, push notifications will be available when full Ride Pro support rolls out later in 2026.
What is the difference between Theft Proof and Ride Pro?
Theft Proof is a service: VanMoof's Bike Hunter team will track and recover your bike, and replace it if they can't find it within 14 days. Ride Pro is a subscription that gives you the Bike Hunter tools yourself - in-app map, Bluetooth scanner, and push notifications. You do the hunting. Many riders choose both.
Can I use Apple Find My and VanMoof theft tracking at the same time?
No. The two systems cannot run simultaneously. When you activate theft tracking, Find My is temporarily disabled. Always check Find My for a last-known location before you report your bike stolen in the VanMoof app.
My S3 or X3 was made before April 2021 - does it support Apple Find My?
No. Apple Find My was added to the S3 and X3 production run from April 2021 onwards. If your bike was manufactured before this date, it does not include Find My hardware. You can still use VanMoof's standard GSM theft tracking (via email link) and Ride Pro in-app tracking.
What if my bike is in an underground car park or building?
GSM signals may not penetrate thick concrete structures, which can mean the bike cannot transmit coordinates while underground. Tracking will resume once the bike is moved to an area with cellular coverage. The last known location before going underground is still recorded and gives you a useful starting point for recovery.
Can I transfer Ride Pro to a new owner if I sell my bike?
No. Ride Pro subscriptions are non-transferable between accounts. If the bike changes owner, the new owner will need to purchase their own Ride Pro subscription. Note that only the owner of a bike can activate Ride Pro; once active, guest riders can access Ride Pro features on that bike.
Should I chase down my stolen bike myself?
VanMoof gives you the tools to locate your bike - but your personal safety always comes first. If any situation feels unsafe or confrontational, step back and contact the police. Share your tracking coordinates with law enforcement and let them handle the actual retrieval. When in doubt, rely on the police rather than approaching a thief directly.
Can you provide me with a bike data log for my insurance?
We understand that insurance providers often request as much documentation as possible following a theft. However, VanMoof is unable to provide granular data logs of specific bike activities, such as when the Kick Lock was engaged or if the alarm was active during theft. These logs are only available to Bike Hunters for active Theft Proof services.
Is Ride Pro available as a free trial?
Yes. A 14-day free trial of Ride Pro is available to all VanMoof owners. You can activate it directly in the VanMoof app. VanMoof recommends trying it out before you need it, so you're familiar with the tools if your bike is ever stolen.
