Maintenance & Troubleshooting

How often should I service my bike?

We recommend yearly maintenance performed at one of our authorized service partners. Find your closest service location at https://www.vanmoof.com/en-NL/find-a-store. Additionally, perform regular checks monthly, or more frequently with heavy use. Chain and sprockets typically need service every 6,000-8,000km.

Can I replace parts myself?

Due to certification requirements, only VanMoof-approved replacement parts may be used on your bike. The certification only applies if your vehicle uses these original parts or approved replacements for your specific model. If you use non-approved parts, you'll need individual permission from local regulatory authorities.

Components that must only be replaced with VanMoof-approved parts:

  • Frame, Fork, Handlebar
  • Motor, Battery, Electronic system
  • Seatpost & saddle, Kickstand
  • Pedals, Tires, Rims, Grips
  • Brake system, Chain cover, Chain
  • Rear hub, Kicklock
  • Front light, Rear light, Halo Rings
  • Mudguards, Crank, Charging port

What are the correct torque specifications for bolts?

Proper torque is critical for safety and component longevity. Too little or too much torque can cause component failure:

  • Handlebar stem clamp screws (x2): 7Nm
  • Handlebar head set bearing screw (x1): 12Nm
  • Seat post clamp screw (x1): 10Nm
  • Saddle front/back position screws (x2): 10Nm
  • Front wheel axle nuts (x2): 30Nm
  • Rear wheel axle nuts (x2): 30Nm
  • Motor cable cap screws (x2): 2Nm
  • Pedals (x2): 40Nm

My brakes feel different. Is this normal?

The S6 uses disc brakes which provide significant stopping power and may feel different from other brake systems. Familiarize yourself with them before riding.

What should I do if I hear unusual noises?

Stop riding and inspect the bike. Check for loose components, debris in moving parts, or contact your local VanMoof Service Partner for guidance.
