VanMoof Theft Proof is our anti-theft service that provides peace of mind for your bike. If your bike is stolen, our Bike Hunters will track it down and recover it. If we can't recover it within 14 days, we'll replace your bike with one of similar mileage and quality.

How to Report Your Bike Stolen
If your bike is stolen, follow these steps immediately:
Step 1: Report in the VanMoof App
- Open the VanMoof app
- Navigate to Settings
- Select your bike
- Scroll to Theft Tracking
- Tap Report stolen and follow the prompts
- Your bike will be locked remotely and tracking will activate
Step 2: File a Police Report
You must file an official police report within 48 hours. The police report must include:
- Date and time of theft
- Location where the bike was stolen
- Your bike's frame number/serial number
- Description of the theft circumstances
- Official police report reference number
Step 3: Submit Documentation
- Use the VanMoof Theft Proof option on our contact form
- Upload your official police report (document file)
- Ensure the bike has been reported stolen in the app first
What Happens Next?
Recovery Process
Once tracking is activated and we receive your police report:
- Our Bike Hunters immediately begin the recovery process
- You can track the search progress:
- S5/A5 bikes: Track via your MyVanMoof account
- S6 bikes: Track via your VanMoof app
- Ride Pro subscribers: Track directly in the VanMoof app with enhanced features
- S3/X3 and older: Receive tracking link via email (Or use RidePro to track in-app)
Timeline
- Recovery period: 14 days from the moment tracking is activated
- If your bike is not recovered within 14 days, we order a replacement bike
- Replacement delivery: Our goal is to deliver your replacement within 14 days of ordering
- Maximum time without bike: 28 days total (14 days recovery + 14 days delivery)
Important Coverage Details
What's Covered
- Bike recovery assistance from our Bike Hunter team
- Replacement bike of similar age, mileage, and quality if recovery is not successful within 14 days
- Coverage is linked to your specific bike (identified by serial number)
What's NOT Covered
- Accessories: Items attached to the bike at the time of theft (bags, lights, phone mounts, etc.) are not covered
- Personal items: Any belongings you had in bags or baskets
- Damage from theft or vandalism: If we recover your bike but it's damaged, Theft Proof does not cover repairs. We return it in the condition found. You'll need to visit a VanMoof partner for any necessary repairs.
Requirements for Coverage
Your bike must be properly secured for Theft Proof to be valid:
- Kick Lock must be engaged: The integrated Kick Lock must be properly locked with a tap of your toe
- Smart features armed: The bike's anti-theft system must be armed when stolen
- No additional lock is required - your Kick Lock provides the coverage
How Theft Proof Works
One-Time Service Per Theft Proof
Theft Proof is linked to your specific bike (not your account or customer profile). This means:
- If your bike is replaced through Theft Proof, the service is considered used for that original bike
- When your bike is recovered (not replaced), Theft Proof remains valid until the expiration date
- If your bike is replaced and you want coverage for the new bike, you must purchase Theft Proof again
Example Scenarios
Scenario 1 - Bike Recovered
- Day 1: Report bike stolen
- Day 10: Bike recovered by Bike Hunters
- Result: Your original Theft Proof coverage continues until expiration
Scenario 2 - Bike Replaced
- Day 1: Report bike stolen
- Day 14: Bike not recovered, replacement ordered
- Day 19: New bike delivered
- Result: Theft Proof service is now used. Purchase new coverage for the replacement bike if desired.
Cancellation and Refunds
- 14-day cancellation window: You can cancel within 14 days of completing the transaction for a full refund
- After reporting theft: Once you've reported your bike as stolen in the app, cancellation is no longer possible
- No automatic renewal: Coverage does not automatically renew at the end of your term. Renew within 14 days after ending
- Maximum coverage: 3 years total
