What happens when I report my bike stolen?
If you trigger Theft Tracking in the app, your ride locks down instantly.
With Ride Pro:
- Motor support is disabled
- Your unlock code is deactivated
- Any movement triggers the full alarm
- Location tracking goes live. You will get a push notification as soon as your bike updates its position
Without Ride Pro:
- Motor support is disabled
- Your unlock code is deactivated
- Any movement triggers the full alarm
- Live tracking is unavailable. You will need a Ride Pro subscription to see your bike's location in the app
Do I need an extra lock or can I just use the Kick Lock?
No, your Kick Lock has your back. One kick activates the full security system and alarm. Locking your ride to a stationary object provides extra peace of mind, but the Kick Lock is your first line of defence.
What happens when someone tries to steal my bike?
Multiple layers of security activate to protect your ride:
- Kick Lock – The rear wheel locks instantly
- Owner Unlock – Only you can activate the ride. Even if moved, it cannot be ridden normally
- Motion Alarm – Any movement triggers immediate sound deterrence
- Instant Alerts – Your phone alerts you the moment your bike moves (requires Ride Pro)
- Remote Shutdown – Mark it stolen to disable the ride completely
- Precision Tracking – Locate your bike with precision via the app (requires Ride Pro)
- Replacement Guarantee – If your ride cannot be recovered, our backup plan has you covered (requires Theft Proof)
Can I take extra security measures?
Yes, of course. You can trust the anti-theft system of your VanMoof, but to keep your ride extra secure, you can:
- Lock your bike to a stationary object
- Always make sure to enable your alarm
- Park in well-lit, visible areas
- Add Ride Pro for precision tracking or Theft Proof for complete peace of mind
Can I go on a bike hunt?
Yes. With Ride Pro, you can track your bike directly. Turn on tracking in the app to see its location, then use the Remote and Bluetooth actions to pinpoint your ride when you are nearby.
We recommend bringing proof of ownership so the police can assist you immediately. You can show that the bike belongs to you directly through the app.
💡Tip: Match the BikeID and Frame number in your app settings under Advanced with the physical details on the bike to prove it is yours.

How did you calculate that a VanMoof is 10 times less likely to be stolen?
We analysed data from established organisations from the Netherlands, our largest active market. Industry reports show that around 90,000 e-bikes are stolen annually out of 4.2 million on the road. This means more than two percent of the total inventory is stolen each year.
In comparison, VanMoof internal data shows that just 0.2% of all S5 and A5 models were reported stolen in the app in the most recent calendar year. Because our rides are fully connected, we know exactly how many are on the road. This data confirms that a VanMoof equipped with our current Anti-Theft System is 10 times less likely to get stolen than the average e-bike.
